You’ve probably heard the line before, “if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.”

It speaks to the deluge of data we now rely on to make decisions in our organisations and businesses. But in a world where inequality and the scarcity of resources are both increasing, perhaps a better statement is, “measure what matters”.

Georgina Camp is CEO and founder of Huber Social, a social impact consulting firm that wants to enable all organisations to measure their impact. But what’s unique about Huber is that their model goes beyond outcomes and outputs, it puts a value on the impact a project is having in terms of human wellbeing.

On this episode…

…We went deep into a subject that comes up a lot on Good Future, and that’s impact measurement. It’s a big issue because it both vital for organisations to understand what impact their having, while also being very difficult to do well.

Georgina shares her framework and their unique approach to Wellbeing.

She also shares her career journey and how she went from being in the army to running a consulting firm.

My key takeaway this week…

…for too long we’ve been measuring things that don’t matter, like GDP. Instead the focus should be on human wellbeing.

Good Future’s Good Books

Circe

By Madeline Miller.

This book has ruined me. Nothing I pick up can compare.  It’s her second book, her first book was song for Achilles. And she takes the lesser known characters from Greek Mythology and then expands and fleshes out their story. Song for Achilles was through the eyes of Achilles lifelong friend and lover Patriclus.

And then Circe is a lesser known character, she’s the daughter of the sun god Helios. And she was banished to an island. But she eventually chose to become mortal, she interacts with human. She’s different to the rest of the gods, she has empathy for humans and chooses to become human. It’s a beautiful story about the beauty of being human.
